There are so many scams that businesses are vulnerable to on the internet. The business publishing scam seems obvious however a relatively unheard of scam to most.
The scam works by having a so called representative of the directory contact the target business which will in fact be a sales team who will have their script and persuasive talk ready to go. The sales guy will sell this fraud scheme as an inclusion in the business directory or something similar were the business is going to be advertised on a website. They will either massively oversell were it is published in such small quantities that it will have no impact and therefore of no use or it won't get published at all. These fraudsters will say pretty much anything to sell you this scam. They will say such things as they will make donations to charity.
Fraud complaints state another variant of the fraud scheme being were the business receives a bogus invoice which will state they have been included in a previous directory or using misrepresentation of another reputable publisher to push their scam.
Scam artists can cost unwary companies thousands of pounds in losses, especially newly formed companies or businesses that are branching out to internet selling and don't have that internet experience.
With the internet being the ideal place for scam artists to carry out their schemes the chance of being targeted is high so it is important to protect your business and arm your staff with the knowledge so they can handle the situation correctly and not at the expense of the company.
